Liathmore (Liath Mór) Church (Tipperary)
This strange figure is set sideways in the doorway of the Romanesque church.
The head is reminiscent of the figures on the 10th century cross at Moone
(Kildare).
The breasts and vulva are clear. The feet are obscured by a 'palmette', and
above the figure are six decorative bosses.
The sideways-placement recalls the non-exhibitionist figure at White Island,
and anticipates the sideways-set quoin-carvings
on several Irish churches (e.g. Kiltinane) and
castles (e.g. Tullavin).

In Ireland there is only one indisputable Romanesque genital-exhibitionist: this one, at Liathmore.
The Aghalurcher figure
is a 'suggestive contortionist'.
The Clonmacnois chancel-arch
contortionist is uninterpretable since the figure may have been deliberately
damaged.
The Rath figure is Luxuria attacked by Nordic
beasts.
After Liathmore, true exhibitionists appear only in the 15th century on
Irish tower houses.
They are not to be found on castles in Britain (except for Haddon Hall
which is more of a stately home than a castle).
